Herndon, VA – September 11, 2024 – Dominion Christian School is proud to announce that Matthew Walls is a Semifinalist in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. This prestigious honor places Matthew in the country's top 1% of high school students.
To qualify as a Semifinalist, he achieved outstanding scores on the PSAT/NMSQT and maintained a high academic record throughout high school, among other accomplishments. Matthew now advances to the Finalist level, where he will compete for National Merit Scholarships.
Tanner Johnsrud, Upper School Principal at Dominion, says, "Matthew is a bright and talented young man. He is thoughtful and curious, insightful and kind. We are so proud of him and grateful for his leadership in our community.”
Over the summer, Matthew participated in The Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics. During this 6-week program, The main project was observing a supernova and graphing a curve to match its change in brightness over time. This involved learning stellar evolution's astrophysics, coding scripts for data analysis, and observing the supernova using Yale’s 16-inch telescope. He hopes to pursue his interest in deep space and astrophysics at the college level and beyond.
