Loudoun Therapeutic Riding is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization that connects children, adults, and military veterans to the healing power of horses.
Loudoun Therapeutic Riding Foundation, Inc. provides equine-assisted services to children, adults, and military veterans with physical, intellectual, and psychosocial diagnoses. Each participant partners with a horse to build confidence, physical strength, and trust.
The equine-assisted services programs that LTR provides include therapeutic (adaptive) riding, adaptive carriage driving, equine-assisted learning, Equine Services for Heroes (for military veterans), and Silver Spurs (for seniors). LTR does offer a hippotherapy program, which uses the movement of the horse to assist the patient in physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy. These services are offered on-site as a contracted service provided by credentialed or licensed professionals.
Our participants come to us as individuals through word-of-mouth referral, therapist or physician recommendations, and group homes. LTR has worked with Loudoun County Public Schools, North Spring Behavioral Healthcare, D.C. VA Medical Center/Poly-trauma Unit, Loudoun County Parks, Recreations & Community Services (adaptive recreation camp), Heritage Hall Healthcare, Loudoun Senior Center and other local human service organizations. Our students live with diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, vision or hearing impairment, post-traumatic stress, brain or spinal cord injuries, and emotional, social or behavioral diagnoses. They range in age from 3-93 years, and 31% are 18 years or younger.
