"Gettin' good players is easy. Gettin' 'em to play together is the hard part." Casey Stengel
One of the most difficult responsibilities of any leader is building a high performing team. It is never as simple as acquiring talented people. All facets of the organization need to work in harmony to capitalize on their collective skills. Each individual on the team must sacrifice some of their own desires to mesh effectively. In basketball somebody must be willing to set the picks and secure the rebounds In baseball players need to hit behind runners to move them along. Similarly in the business world employees need to work collaboratively to accomplish any goal. They need to harness their abilities and work together to achieve the vision established by the leader. Often the teams with the most talented players don't win championships. It s the team that works best together, each member perhaps subjugating some portion of their own ability for the betterment of the team. Talent is a necessary but not a sufficient ingredient in the composition of a team. An effective team requires hard work, sacrifice, effective communications, a continuous improvement mindset, confidence, and a willingness to put the goals of the team first
