today's #leadership quote
"Value those colleagues who tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear."
-- Pat Summitt
It is only when we become self aware and admit to our weaknesses that we can begin to improve them. We need to cherish the people who have the courage to let us know that we can better. Those people are the ones that push us to become more than what we currently are. Often the message is a bit difficult to accept but if we take the coaching to heart we will emerge better as a result. Often great athletes are surrounded by people who tell them how great they are from the time that they are very young. Because they are head & shoulders above the competition there is little incentive to continually improve. At some point that individual runs into people with more talent , is unprepared and loses heart. While difficult, we should surround ourselves with people who care enough about us to illuminate our flaws providing an opportunity for us to grow and improve. It is often the less talented that win championships because they have put in the work to overcome their challenges and know the value of continuous improvement. Most likely they had a coach willing to push them to greater heights. So surround yourself with people willing to tell you the truth.
