Today's #leadership quote
“The future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious.” – John Scully
Jonathan Swift said that Vision is the art of seeing things invisible and today's quote follows that theme. Whether you are leading a team or an organization you need to be able to look beyond what currently exists to what can be. Your vision should not be limited by current thinking and should be somewhat scary. For the most part people will perform well the things that they are comfortable doing. We can improve the processes and the efficiency and get incremental improvements but generally that will not ensure lasting success. There will come a point in the life of every organization or team when yesterday's thinking will not allow them to continue to grow and become what they are truly capable of becoming. A leader needs to see beyond current capabilities to what is possible and paint that picture for their organization. The vision should be scary and will require change which will likely be uncomfortable but entirely necessary. A proper vision will inspire the team to change and look beyond their current capabilities to what is possible enabling them to become the best possible version of themselves. That is the essence of leadership.
