Although attorneys are often involved in adversarial processes, I believe it is important to treat all participants with dignity and with respect.  Hallmarks of my practice include careful attention to my clients’ needs and goals, working collaboratively with my clients towards resolving their legal issues, and striving to be thoroughly informed and prepared on my clients’ behalf.
I have a broad range of experience in the areas of commercial and business representation, including contract review, drafting and negotiation. I am a litigator with extensive experience in criminal and traffic defense, student discipline hearings, and administrative law. I have also represented clients in civil matters such as construction and renovation disputes.
I am an advocate for resolving disputes using processes which are alternatives to litigation. For over thirty years, I have served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association (AAA). I currently serve on the AAA Commercial and Consumer panels.  I have also represented businesses and individuals in arbitration and in mediation.  I serve in the Fairfax County Court System as a Motions Conciliator.  My article, “Arbitration of Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act Claims“, was published in the December 2015 edition of the Virginia Lawyer magazine.
My criminal law background also includes serving over two years as a Magistrate for Virginia’s 17th Judicial District and serving eleven years as a legal instructor on the faculty of the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy.  I continue to return to the Academy to teach legal update classes to veteran officers as well as to assist with the Academy’s moot court training program for rookie officers.
Community service has also been a hallmark of my career.  Through my work in professional associations, I often speak in schools and community functions.  I am passionate about promoting the arts.  I was a volunteer usher at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts.  I currently volunteer at the Friday Night Live Herndon summer concert series through my involvement with the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce where I currently serve on the Board of Directors as its General Counsel.
