oday's Leadership quote

"The measure of a leader is not the number of people who serve him but the number of people he serves." John C. Maxwell

Often when we write our resume or apply for a job we are quick to point out the number of people in the organization that we lead. I remember, as a young manager, always desiring a bigger organization and being very protective of the headcount that I was authorized. Wanting a bigger organization in itself is not a problem unless the reason for wanting to grow is simply to be able to say that you have more people in your control. Leadership is less about command and control and more about serving the people that are entrusted to you. No one can argue that Mother Teresa was a leader yet she had command and control over nobody. Instead she served others setting an example that changed the world. Great leaders understand that it is never about them. The focus instead is always on the people they are entrusted to serve. The goal of a leader should be to discover the greatness that resides within each of their followers and position them to hone their superpowers and become the best possible versions of themselves. Leaders exist to develop future leaders and to make the lives of their constituents better. Leaders don't seek accolades for themselves but rather for the people they are entrusted to lead.
