The International Association for Spelling as Communication (I-ASC) is a nonprofit based in Virginia that works with people with disabilities who cannot communicate through speech. We teach them to communicate by pointing to letters on a stencil board, which allows them to express their thoughts and ideas. Doing so opens a world of possibilities for people who are typically underestimated and overlooked. Many of the people we work with go on to successful endeavors like publishing books, starting businesses, and graduating from college.
I-ASC is hosting a race at Belle Haven Park in Alexandria on April 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be a 10k, 5k, and a 1-mile walk/run.
