Today's #leadership quote
"There is some risk involved in action, there always is. But there is far more risk in failure to act." Harry S. Truman
Making decisions and taking action is often uncomfortable as we almost always wish for better information. Decision making would be simple if only we knew the outcome in advance. Unfortunately that is most often not the case and it takes courage and strength of conviction to move forward when faced with decisions. I believe that there are two key points to remember when faced with a difficult decision. The first is that by not taking action and moving forward we are in effect making a decision which involves just as much risk if not more than being proactive and deciding upon an uncertain path. By failing to make the difficult decision we often prolong bad circumstances and cede control of our destiny. The 2nd point to remember is that rarely is a decision made that cannot be tweaked or adjusted if circumstances change and dictate the need for flexibility. Having the benefit of momentum makes those adjustments easier and increases the chances of a successful conclusion. Perfect information and a definite outcome are rare so we need to be comfortable with uncertainty and make the best choice possible with the data we have.
