Today's #leadership quote
“I know what I have to do, and I’m going to do whatever it takes. If I do it, I’ll win, and it doesn’t matter what anyone else does.” – Florence Griffith Joyner
As I was looking for a quote today, I found this one and thought it interesting from a couple of perspectives. On its surface it speaks to the idea of having the work ethic to prepare diligently to put yourself in a position to excel. In addition, it talks directly about having a strong belief in your abilities, knowing that if you perform as you are capable of you will emerge victorious. For Florence Griffith Joyner that involved sprinting down the track but it can apply equally well to any venture in life. The real key in the quote for me however is a bit more subtle than what you get from reading it at first glance. To me the key is having the will to put in the effort and the courage to run the race. Regardless of your position on the podium if you have done those two things you emerge a winner. The key is not to compare ourselves to others but to ourselves. If we put in the effort to be better every day than the day we were before we cannot help but emerge a champion. It is our mindset and our struggle to grow and improve that is important and the medal will care for itself.
