Today's #leadership quote
"All true leaders have learned to say no to the good in order to say yes to the best." John C. Maxwell
For most of us it always seems as though there is never enough time to accomplish all that we want to get done. Time is a precious resource but we often misuse it because we have not learned to say no. There will always be more demands on us than hours in the day so either by default or through conscious choice we ultimately say no to some things in favor of other things. The problem arises when the things that we decide to pursue are not the important tasks that help us to move forward toward achieving our goals and fulfilling our passion. Often people make task lists without prioritizing the tasks according to their purpose. The natural tendency is then to complete the easy tasks to clear the plate. Unfortunately often those easy tasks are not the ones that move the needle and we end up squandering our time on inconsequential tasks or projects for a momentary feeling of accomplishment. So the critical tasks that move the ball forward may get lost. Instead we should focus on the actions that give us the biggest return. Learning to say no and when to say no is a key to effective leadership and time management.
